Winter Wonder Weeks in Leiden

With its many boutique shops and cozy cafes, Leiden has plenty of places to explore during your stay. But did you know there’s plenty to explore even without going into places. The charming canals and courtyards create a cozy atmosphere, so you will encounter lots of new places during your walk. Those who visit Leiden during the Winter Wonder Weeks are in for an even bigger treat, with an extra festive ambiance and plenty of fun activities. From December 7 to January 5, the main square, ‘het Stadhuisplein’, will transform into a winter paradise where a floating ice rink will appear in the middle of the canal. Here you can skate amid the historic canal houses. Do you prefer to stay with both feet on the ground? Then stroll around the Nostalgic Fair right next door, where you can indulge in the old-fashioned charm of merry-go-rounds, carnival games, cotton candy and a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

For a spectacular outing, visit the Big Christmas Circus on the Lammermarkt from December 25 to January 5. In the heated tent, a two-hour show featuring performers from home and abroad will be performed daily (except for New Year's Eve and the 1st of January). Prefer to stay warm by moving around? Then stroll through town during the Choir Weekends. On December 14, 15, 21 and 22, choirs scattered throughout the city will sing a variety of musical styles, from traditional carols to modern classics.

You also don't want to miss the Rotary Sante Run on December 19. During this fun run, 1574 participants – a symbolic reference to the year in which Leiden was liberated from Spanish rule – will run through the city dressed as Santa Claus. Along the way, live acts provide extra atmosphere and entertainment.

After an active day in the city, Breathe Hotel is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy our comfortable rooms and relaxed atmosphere. Book your stay today and experience a relaxing winter weekend away in Leiden!
